"Hullo!" Her voice echoed through the vessel that seemed abandoned at the moment. Ellie felt her way down the cement walls. The tire compressor now seemed like a torture device of some kind.

Finally, she noticed an ember glowing just outside the front entrance. As she came closer, she saw it was Sal.

"What's going on?" She felt if they were the only two people in this world. "Have you seen Kale?"
"What are you doing back?" Sal squinted. "You shouldn't be here."

"Well, of course, I shouldn't be here. I keep coming back, I don't know why. I want to figure this out as much as you do."

"Well, you won't find Kale here."

"Where is he?"

"He went back." Sal scratched the side of his head then.

"Went back where?"

"You know, where he came from." Sal walked inside then.

"Where he came from?" Ellie squinted feeling a chill then. It was cold here. Much colder than she imagine. "Where did he come from?"

"Beats me." Sal shrugged getting him a sugary cola from the drink box. "But he's not here, pumpkin."

Ellie looked at him wide eyed. Why would he say such a thing. She looked down at her stomach then. It was bulging. How could she forget that. It was like an annoying beach ball that had suddenly swelled up inside her, and it was kicking. Kicking hard. She blinked then and she was back in the hospital bed. She looked up and saw her mother on one side of her, her sister on the other, but Evan wasn't there.
