The wind was getting up. She felt as if they were in the middle of a storm coming up, but she didn't want to let go of Kale.

Images flashed through her mind of the moment she actually saw Bro. Sal for the first time. He was a bad guy after all. He'd held a knife to her throat. Evan had been in the bathroom all that time. Her eyes had rolled back in her head and her tongue felt trapped in her throat. It had been a near death experience. Maybe. Maybe that's what it was. Maybe she was trying to kill herself before they could. But Kale had been with her. He had the handcuffs.

Had he fallen in love with her then? No, she didn't believe that. Not for a second now. It was all so bad then. So awful. Somehow she'd turned it around, but she didn't know how.

"Are you sure you want to be here?" Kale asked then after the memory had faded.

She nodded. Thinking, he wouldn't be like this anywhere else, but what if he'd changed. What if Kale wasn't who he had been?

"Why can't you let it go?" Ellie winced.

"Because you can't," Kale smiled at her then.

She reached for him then, but she was already gone, sucked back to where she had been. Perhaps, but this time she awoke in a sweat in a hospital bed.

"Good, you're with us, again," the nurse was taking her pulse. She felt the stab of the IV in her arm. She felt so weak, trapped perhaps.

"What am I doing here?" She tried to lift her head, but she couldn't. Was it just another dream? Was it the powers that be? "I want to see Evan." She figured as much he'd just dropped her off at the emergency room and left, but no, he was out in the hallway. The nurse was nice enough to get him.

"Hey," Evan grabbed her hand then. "They said you'll be OK. Everything is OK. The baby is just fine."

"Really." How could that be.

"You just lost consciousness for a while, that's all. They say it was a seizure."

"A seizure," she thought she might choke then.

"I called your Mom." Evan then nodded.

"You did?"

"Yeah, I don't know how else we're gonna pay for this. Exactly." Evan shrugged.

"So I'm going home?"

"I guess so."

Ellie so wanted to believe him. But maybe this was a dream too. Everything seemed to be one nightmare after another, lately.
