Well, of course, he wouldn't let her leave the light on.

"We both need some shut eye," Evan told her. "And I'm not getting rid of the car. We need it if we want to get to Alliance."

Naturally, he'd believe her to be crazy. After all, she was pregnant. Was that his answer for everything.

Ellie wasn't going to go to sleep. She'd keep staring at that mirror hoping Kale would get back to her. But nothing happened. She expected it. Why was it like that? First he appears. Gives her an inkling of hope and then he's gone.

What if he came out of the coma just like that? Then what? Would he remember the things he said?

Maybe she was really crazy. Crazy. Just crazy.

She wouldn't let herself cry about this. After all, she had made coffee from top soil, now hadn't she? Why couldn't she go back to that if she felt safer there than here. It was true. Nowhere was perfect. Now was it?

She looked in the mirror harder. She thought she saw something move. But it could have been a truck from outside passing by in the parking lot. Maybe some drunk was stumbling back to his room.

Ellie moved in toward the dresser. She couldn't exactly look at it like a window. Her reflection was there too. Maybe she was already there. What if she didn't even know it.

And then he appeared from the darkness. But it wasn't Kale.
