She winced and tears came immediately.

"What are you doing here?" The nurse gently patted Ellie on the back which surprised her. She didn't try to yank her away.

"I've been looking for my...my husband." Ellie nodded.

"You know him?"

"Yes," Ellie nodded. "I do. He's ....He's Kale Green. And, and I'm his wife." She was definite on that lie. She'd keep telling it, as many times as she had too, to make it true. Why couldn't it be true.

"Honestly, he's just another John Doe, I'm afraid."

"I didn't know what had happened? How did it happen?" Ellie needed a clue. It was all going to go back to that motel room, wasn't it.

"We don't know exactly what he was trying to do. Might have been suicide. Might not have been."

Ellie didn't believe for a second it was really suicide.

"How long has he been this way."

"A little over a week?"

Ellie winced more. It felt longer to her, like months.

"I don't know how it could have happened." Couldn't the nurse be a little more insightful.

"Maybe, you should talk to the police." The nurse then said.

"The police." She didn't need the police in on this. "I don't understand?"

"There is an on going police investigation."

"But why?"

"I'm not sure. Quite possibly, its gang related."

"Do people in gangs commit suicide?"

The nurse didn't have an answer for that one. Ellie kept looking back at Kale. Was everything he'd told her a lie? She didn't want to believe it to be true. Yet the only true place she knew wasn't here at all. It was somewhere else.
