it could be a better place

Ellie decided to pay them no mind at the truck-stop, after-while. She went on with what she was doing. She even offered catchup to a customer who was just served pancakes.

"You might like it," Ellie told him. "You might want to start using syrup on your fries."

"I don't know that sounds wrong." The fellow with the stringy hair just looked at her as if she'd lost it.

"What else is there to lose?" She shrugged, thinking how could she make this coffee better. Maybe the salt tasted like sugar. It was worth checking in to.

"Well, you look kind of busy," Kale paid for his pie and coffee.

Ellie looked around. People were using catchup on their pancakes. It might have looked rather disgusting, but they were eating the pancakes.

"Thanks to you," Ellie smile.

"What did I do?"

"You were the one who told me not to put catchup on my fries," she told him.

"What are you thinking of doing now?"

"I don't know, maybe putting chocolate in the coffee."

"I don't remember what chocolate taste like," Kale said. "I don't even know if there is any."

"Yeah, just my luck," Ellie knew there wasn't all that much luck to be had around here. "So what are you gonna do now?"

"I don't know, nothing much. What can you do? No Internet. Don't know anyone to call. Might look around, see if you know who is about." He nodded.

"You know who?"

"Don't tell me you forgot him?'

"No, " Ellie knew who he meant. Evan. "Good luck on that."

"Yeah, I'll have just about as much luck as you have trying to make the coffee worth waking up too." Kale almost smiled and left.
