As everything else, his place looked as washed out as outside, but it was down in the basement, somewhere on a nowhere street in a town that looked desolate.

"Does it ever rain here?" She wondered as she looked around at the small accommodations. There was a little fridge in a little kitchen. Everything looked decades old, maybe from the seventies.

"Not as long as I've been here," Kale shrugged. "But then I've only been here a couple of weeks."

"Do you think you've changed?" Ellie asked.

"I don't know, I don't have a picture from before and the longer I'm here the less I really remember that much from before." He got her a bottle of water out of the fridge then. It was barely cold but she took it and opened the cap.

She took a sip. Even the water wasn't that good, either. It tasted a little rusty from the tap.

"This is a horrible place isn't it," Ellie squinted. "I've fallen into the worst place ever, haven't I?"

"No, no, don't say that," Kale sighed, he put his arm around her. "You were in the worst place before you landed here. Now you're here."

Of course, all he had to offer for lodgings was the bottom bunk in his room. She guessed it was better than being on the top bunk, but really she couldn't be so sure about that.
