Ellie hated the idea of waiting around for anything. Sure, she'd stay with him. She guessed.

"But first we have to get back to the motel room," Ellie said once they got back to the car.

"You really don't want to do that."

"Why? Why can't I go back? Maybe that's where I need to stay."

"I'm telling you, you don't want to," Kale said.

"But I do." She was going. He wasn't going to stop her.

Of course, when she got there, the room was clean. You'd never know any of her stuff had ever been there. It hit her hard, emotionally. She just wanted her handbag. Couldn't they have at least left her the handbag? Why had she not thought of it before.

"Sorry," Kale tugged at her. "We better get out of here before you get the third degree."

"Third degree?"

"Oh yeah, if they catch you now, then it'll all be set up and you'll get assigned where to live and what to do. You don't need that right now. Not this moment." Kale informed her.

Ellie was about to burst into tears. It just didn't seem possible to have everything vanish. She kept staring in the mirror. And all she saw was herself looking back. It was if nothing had ever happened at all now.

They got back in the car. This time Kale drove.

"You don't know where we're going so you better let me take you there," Kale said.
