It was almost eleven before Evan showed up. Ellie was getting perturbed, and the hunger pains were hurting.

"Where in the hell were you?" Ellie noticed Evan was out of breath. She thought he was in better shape. What was the deal?

"Out." He was vague, but he'd brought some Twinkies and some ho-hos.

"I need more than this crap." She tossed the packaged sweets back in his face.

"I had to do some things." Again, very vague. He handed her his Dr. Pepper to drink.

"Like what?" She sipped at it, but before she knew it she'd finished off the liter.

"Like you don't need to know." There was a worried look on his face as he paced. "I think we should just lay low. Don't leave this place. You have to stay here. Keep the door locked."

"What for?" She squinted. "Something is going on." She kept staring at his rash behavior as he raked his fingers through his blond hair.

"Its not, " His eyes lit, but then he shrugged. "We're fine. All will be just dandy if you don't go out, or anything."

She peeked out the window then and didn't see his little black sports car. "Where is it?"

"Where's what?" Again, she was baffled by the way he reacted.

"The car?" She kept staring at him as if he would eventually tell her the truth.

"I-I needed some money." He slightly stuttered.

"And you sold your car?"

"Kind of," he closed his eyes. "Listen, this would work so much better if you didn't ask so many... FUCKING QUESTIONS!" He went to the bathroom, slammed the door and stayed in there for the longest time.

Ellie plopped back on the bed and flipped through the channels. She didn't want to think about how he wasn't telling her the truth. Really, this was so not the trip she wanted. Weren't they suppose to go to some sort of amusement park or something?

"What kind of dump are you taking in there?" Ellie snarled as she got up after twenty or so minutes later and tapped on the bathroom door.

She didn't hear him say anything. There was no movement. This stabbed a nerve with Ellie. Maybe something was really wrong.

"Are you OK, Evan?" This was making her nervous. She was ready to jerk the phone up and call 911.

But she looked up in the mirror and there he was staring back at her from the mirror, and it wasn't just her reflection. He was standing behind her. She looked behind her. No one. Ellie looked back in the mirror. He shook his head, no.

Ellie caught her breath. Her heart raced. She felt a bit dizzy too.

"Who in the hell are you?" She stared back at his still blue eyes. Of course, she didn't get an answer.

"Evan! Please get your fucking ass out here!" She felt a bit shaky now as she stared back at him in the mirror. Maybe this was happening because she felt so weak or what if she was on drugs and didn't know it. She knew she'd know. Wouldn't she?

Evan jerked the bathroom door then. He had a towel wrapped around him, but he looked as if he was soaked in sweat instead of water. She never remembered the water actually running.

"What?" Evan winced. Ellie looked back at the mirror, the figment of her imagination was gone. Gone.

She collapsed on the carpet.
